Tackling a Thread Mess

July 6, 2010

I’m so embarrassed. The pearl cotton I used for a project in Make It! Secondhand Chic ended up in this tangled mess. Yesterday afternoon, I decided I needed to address the problem and make it right.

I cut ‘spools’ from a cereal box rescued from the recycling bin and got to work. It was touch and go with the red, but in the end I was able to rescue her. Much better now, don’tcha think?

If you’re ever faced with such tangles, here’s a hint that might help. Instead of just winding up the thread/yarn at one end, try to find both ends and wind them up independently of each other. That way, if you run into a tricky knot, you can simply loosen it and slip one of the wind-ups through the space instead pulling a long thread through, which might get RE-tangled if let loose piled up on the floor. (Where the cat can get into it!)
